Every Saturday Series event concludes with an awards luncheon where the amateur participants eat their meal with the TOUR players while the day’s prizes are awarded. While it’s another great chance to get to know a TOUR player or two, there is always great conversation during the meal and the amateur participants are always amazed at how willing some of the TOUR players are to hang around after the luncheon for a beer and a few stories.
Tommy Tolles stuck around after a Saturday Series event and entertained his group with a lot of the stories about the TOUR and the TOUR players that you don’t read about in Golf Magazine! The guys who played with Tommy that day told us that as much as they had enjoyed watching Tommy play golf they enjoyed the three hours he spent drinking beer with them far more.
Corey Pavin joined us after a disappointing two days and a missed cut at Westchester. Corey had a great day on the course with his group on Saturday and ended up staying for a few beers after the awards had been presented. In fact, he ended up leaving at 4:00 that afternoon to head over to Shinnecock Hills for the US Open. You can bet his amateur companions had a great time listening to his stories from his triumph at Shinnecock in 1995 when he set up a title clinching birdie with his amazing 4-wood to the 72nd hole to beat Greg Norman. |
