A pro-am event at a TOUR event offers an absolutely unique opportunity in sports. If you love football, you can’t get out on the field and play with Brett Favre, and if you love baseball there are no opportunities to stare down a Roger Clemmons fastball from the batters box. A pro-am golf event lets you play the game right next to the stars while they’re playing too.
The marquee pro-am at a TOUR event happens on Wednesday. You play with the pros, but the pros are are torn between trying to prepare to win the event and entertaining you. You even end up playing from differenty tees than your pros.
A Saturday Series event is completely different. The tournament is over for our players, because they’ve missed the cut. Sure, they’re disappointed, but missing the cut is part of life on TOUR. Even the best players on TOUR miss the cut nearly a third of the time. While they’re disappointed they are also in the mood to relax. And our format is designed to encourage just that. We even tell our TOUR professionals to wear shorts if they want to—and many of them do. You’ll get to see funny things, like Ken Green in shorts with his trademark black socks, green shoes and Tabasco shirt.
Our format encourages camaraderie. You eat breakfast with your TOUR players, and warm up on the range right next to them. You’ll play from the same tees as your TOUR professionals, and you’ll get to see how long these guys really are. And that’s REALLY long. You’ll eat lunch after the round with your guys and many of them stick around to have a few beers after that.
“When I miss the cut I’m disappointed, sure. But it happens. The thing you have to do is move on, keep looking forward, you’ve got to stay positive. I like playing in the Saturday Series for that reason. It helps keep me focused on playing the game and it’s always a good time. I like the feel of it -- just getting out there and playing golf for fun, and it’s really nice to be doing something that raises money for charity.”
